Sen. President calls for unity in ‘crafting’ 2025 budget

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has emphasized the need for a collaborative approach in crafting the 2025 Appropriation Bill. Speaking at the opening of the Stakeholders Public Hearings and Interactive Session on the 2025 Appropriation Bill, Akpabio stressed that this year’s budget, themed “The 2025 Budget of Restoration: Securing Peace, Rebuilding Prosperity,” presents a critical opportunity to guide Nigeria toward greater prosperity and national unity.

Akpabio highlighted that the budget is not merely a fiscal document, but a roadmap to tackle Nigeria’s immediate challenges while setting the stage for long-term economic growth and resilience. He acknowledged the nation’s current struggles, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts between the government, private sector, and citizens in shaping the budget.

The Senate President also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for its achievements, including the removal of fuel subsidies, infrastructure development, and security initiatives ¹. Furthermore, Akpabio announced that the implementation of the 2024 Appropriation Bill will be extended to June 2025.

In his welcome address, Akpabio urged Honourable Ministers and Heads of Extra -ministerial Departments to be prepared to defend their sectoral allocations, emphasizing the importance of legislative oversight. The Senate President assured that the National Assembly will ensure due process in passing the 2025 Appropriation Bills, conducting public hearings to reflect the voices of Nigerians.
