John David, the CEO of Data Addict and a US Army Veteran, has highlighted the dual impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on cybersecurity. In an exclusive interview, he noted that while AI enhances security by detecting threats faster, cybercriminals are also leveraging it to launch more sophisticated attacks.
“AI is a double-edged sword. It improves security by identifying threats in real-time, but hackers are using the same technology to create more advanced cyberattacks,” John David explained. He emphasized the urgent need for clear regulations on AI use in cybersecurity and stronger international collaboration to prevent its misuse.
John David believes Nigeria and Africa can benefit significantly from AI by automating security processes, enhancing fraud detection, and training local experts in AI-driven security solutions. “By investing in AI research and supporting local cybersecurity startups, Nigeria can reduce its dependence on foreign security solutions,” he added.
He urged governments and private sectors to collaborate on AI policy development, ensuring responsible use while maximizing its benefits for digital security.
