Anambra NUJ frowns at unethical attitude of some members

Anambra State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has frowned at unethical attitude of some members who exposed the identify of minors using pictures especially in crime reports.

The position of NUJ Anambra State Council was contained in a communique at the end of her February 2025 Congress which held at Godwin Ezeemo International Press Centre, Awka.

The Congress presided over by the State Council Chairman, Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu(PhD, JP,) said that by such unethical attitude, the future of the children may be jeopardized via stigmatization.

The Congress commended the governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Soludo for rising to the challenge of insecurity in the state, urging him to sustain the tempo.

NUJ Anambra State Council however called on the state government to double its efforts to stamp out insecurity in the state for an assured security of lives and property of the citizens even as it welcomed the operation udo-ga-achi, and Agunechemba security outfit.

The media practitioners in Anambra State however appealed to the outfit to do well to rescue kidnapped victims alive where possible even as the body encouraged members of the public to see themselves as part of the security efforts of the government by saying something when they see something.

The Congress commended Hon Lilian Orogbu, member representing Awka North and South federal constituency in the National Assembly for donating 20 bags of 50 kg bags of Rice to the NUJ Anambra to share during the February 2025 Congress.

A governorship candidate in the November 8 guber polls, Chief Valentine Ozigbo was singled out for commendation for supporting the hosting of the February 2025 Congress.

The Congress applauded the simultaneous springing up of new roads across the state by Prof Charles Soludo led administration noting that the initiative is opening up the rural communities.

It observed that the development has made the state attractive for investors and as well granting better life for the people at grassroots even as the congress praised the massive works at the new Government House at the 3 Arms Zone near Dr Alex Ekwueme Square Aroma.

The project the congress noted consists of Governor’s Lodge, Presidential Lodge , Press Hangout, Police Court, Governor’s Office and Deputy Governor’s Office, to mention but a few.

The Congress appealed to practitioners that as the 2025 governorship election draws near, journalists should be professional in their election reportage, avoid unruly behaviour in the field, stop ambulance chasing particularly at events uninvited or gate crashed by focusing on the event rather than other pecuniary to earn respect.

The council congratulated Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu(PhD) and his elected State Working Committee (SWC) on their election victory at the just concluded State Triennial Conference even as the members are charged to unite immediately for the growth and progress of the union.

The communique signed by Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu PhD and Comrade Okechukwu Onuegbu, Chairman and Secretary respectively harped on the need for training and retraining of journalists on standard language of communication in their reportage.

Entrepreneurs who opened Radio Stations in the state were commended as the council noted that it has led to proliferation of radio broadcasting in Anambra, but however appealed for the prioritisation of the welfare of the staff.

Congress in the communique appreciated the candidates campaigning to take over the vacant seat of late Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah at Anambra South senatorial zone for maintaining civility and decorum in their campaign activities, urging them to remain on facts and what they can do rather than campaign of calumny.
