NAGGW Chair on familiarization visit to Agency

Senator Magnus Abe who was recently appointed Chairman of the National Agency for the Great Green Wall, NAGGW, has visited the Agency to acquint with it’s function.

During the visit, Abe stated his willingness to provide all necessary support and required assistance that will enhance the smooth running and effectiveness of the Agency in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He emphasized the Agency’s vital role in environmental sustainability and land restoration, saying NAGGW was established by an Act of Parliament with a clear and specific purpose to restore degraded lands and combat desertification.

He commended those that envisioned the Great Green Wall initiative as a means of securing the country’s future for generations to come.

The Chairman called on the Management team to adopt a fresh perspective on the Agency’s Mission, to think differently and begin to perceive the Agency differently and assured the staff that he will contribute through advice, support and recommendations aimed at increasing visibility and impact.

He further emphasized that his presence in the Agency as Council Chairman will support the DG and improve the staff working conditions and add value not just to the Agency but to the country and the area we operate.

In his welcome remarks the Director General/CEO, Saleh Abubakar, MFR, assured the newly appointed Council Chairman of the Agency’s readiness to work in full support of actualizing the NAGGW’s mandate in combating desertification and restoration of Nigeria’s dry lands.

The DG acknowledged Sen. Abbe’s pivotal role in the establishment of the Agency during his tenure as a member of the Senate Committee on Environment. He expressed confidence that, given the Chairman’s passion for environment, the Agency’s mandate will be achieved.
