The National Examinations Council (NECO) has extended accreditation to additional schools in Equatorial Guinea, allowing them to participate in the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, said the expansion was part of the council’s efforts to broaden its international reach.
According to Sani, the newly accredited institutions, which complement existing ones, are situated in Bata, the largest city in Equatorial Guinea. He noted that a NECO accreditation team visited these schools to evaluate their preparedness for the examinations.
“The Accreditation Team inspected classrooms, laboratories, libraries, computer laboratories, workshops, examination halls, sport facilities, and continuous assessment.
“They also inspected the adequacy of teachers and school security to determine their suitability and readiness for NECO examinations.
“After a thorough evaluation and comprehensive assessment, the schools were granted full SSCE and full BECE accreditation status,” he stated.
Sani emphasized that accrediting additional schools abroad underscores NECO’s commitment to delivering quality educational assessments beyond Nigeria’s borders.
He added that the expansion aligns with NECO’s vision of becoming a leading examination body across Africa, offering both Nigerian and foreign students access to its services. This, he said, would contribute to the advancement of education on the continent and globally.
The AUTHORITY previously reported that NECO examinations are now conducted in several foreign countries, including Benin Republic, Niger Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, Equatorial Guinea, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
