Alleged Corruption in Amnesty Programme: Angry Niger Delta Liberators, Ex-Agitators storm NASS

By Hassan Zaggi

Angry protesters on Thursday storm the National Assembly complex in Abuja to express their displeasure over delay by law makers to commence investigation on the alleged financial irregularities at the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP).

The protesters who comprise of Niger Delta Liberators and Ex-Agitators Forum (NDLEF) have, therefore, urged the lawmakers to, as a matter of urgency, investigate the allegations of financial misappropriation at the PAP.

It would be recalled that last week, it was reported that the Niger Delta Liberators and Ex-Agitators Forum (NDLEF) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had received petition to investigate PAP over alleged mismanagement of funds.

The protesters displayed placards with various inscriptions to drive home their message.

Speaking,  the NDLEF Convener, Odey Otunu, stressed that members of his group can no longer fold their hands and watch those who are supposed to be beacons of hope and pilots of development in the Niger Delta Region become its nightmares.

He, therefore, appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Assembly to launch a thorough investigation into the complaints lodged against PAP and its leadership, alleging that the supposed interventionist agency is fast becoming a conduit pipe for treasury looters.

Otunu further revealed that the PAP  leadership has awarded contracts to companies outside their mandates, adding that investigations have further showed that most of these companies are not registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

“We call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consolidate his renewed thrust for fiscal probity and governance accountability by compelling all relevant anti-graft agencies to beam their searchlight on the horrendous financial activities,” Otunu further appealed.
