Rivers Crisis: Jackrich Distances Himself from Threat by Militant Group to Attack Oil Facilities

High Chief Ambassador Sobomabo Jackrich, the National Leader of the Simplicity Movement, has strongly dissociated himself and his political party, the National Rescue Movement (NRM), from a militant group identified as the Niger Delta Rescue Movement, which recently issued a threat to resume hostilities and attack oil facilities in the region.

In a press statement, Jackrich condemned the group’s actions and clarified that neither he, the NRM, nor Tantita Security Services, where he serves as a contractor, had any links to the alleged militants.

He expressed concern over the similarity in the group’s name to his political party, emphasizing that the NRM remains a law-abiding entity committed to democratic engagement.

Jackrich also debunked claims associating the Niger Delta Rescue Movement with Tantita Security, a government-approved private security firm responsible for safeguarding oil installations.

He said, “My attention has been drawn to a recent video circulating online, purportedly released by a group identified as the Niger Delta Rescue Movement, threatening to resume hostilities in response to the 48-hour ultimatum issued to Governor Siminialayi Fubara by the Martin Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly.

“I am deeply concerned about the name of the group, as it bears a striking resemblance to my political party, the National Rescue Movement (NRM). As the leader of NRM in Rivers State, I categorically distance my party from any link, affiliation, or connection with this group. NRM remains a law-abiding political party committed to democratic principles and peaceful engagement.”

The former leader of the now-defunct Niger Delta Liberation Force (NDLF) further distanced himself from any form of violence, reminding the public that the NDLF had long been integrated into the Presidential Amnesty Program and was no longer involved in militancy.

Jackrich alleged that the attempt to link him to the militant group was part of a broader scheme to frame and silence him due to his open support for Governor Siminialayi Fubara.

He recalled a previous incident on April 8, 2024, when security operatives raided his residence, resulting in property destruction and the deaths of two of his workers.

Calling on security agencies to remain vigilant, he warned against being misled by individuals using false narratives for political advantage. Jackrich reaffirmed his right to support Governor Fubara and vowed not to be intimidated by political opponents.

“I have the inalienable right to support whoever I choose. My support for Governor Fubara should not be criminalized or turned into an offense,” he stated.

He urged Rivers State residents to remain peaceful, assuring them that truth and justice would prevail despite ongoing political tensions.
