Emergency Rule: Fubara is 90% of Rivers problem, says State APC chairman, Okocha

By Chesa Chesa

The All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman in Rivers State, Tony Okocha, says that suspended Governor of the state, Sim Fubara, constitutes 90 percent of the crisis that rocked the state, and that his exit will see to a resolution of the imbroglio.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday at APC national headquarters in Abuja, Okocha reiterated that the state of emergency imposed on the State by President Bola Tinubu is a necessary evil that saved Rivers from anarchy.

According to him: “Mr. President’s decision was a necessary evil, and whether the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara or his suspension, as it were today, will be the only thing that will bring peace in Rivers State, I can tell you that more than 90 percent of the political imbroglio is solved. I’m telling you that he is at the epicenter of this trouble.”

Okocha said he and others were living in fear because non-state actors had begun brandishing dangerous weapons and making statements tailoring towards anarchy and lawlessness, which is why “the State of Emergency called by Mr. President saved Rivers State from anarchy.”

He exonerated Fubara’s predecessor and now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, from the crisis, saying that the Minister is actually the epicenter of peace in the state.

“You ask: Why didn’t you suspend the Minister of Federal Capital? Was he in the fray? The answer is no. If bringing him to the fray is because he is the leader of that political structure, then you may be right. The 32 state assembly members were produced, sponsored by the former governor of River State, now minister of Federal Capital Territory.

“The other point we make is that Fubara, was the weakest political investment. I’ve said that many times. What happens to you when you have made an investment? Should you allow the investment to fly away or to explode?

“And in politics, I’m talking about even in economics, in politics it is heavy, if not impossible, for someone to allow you dismantle his political structure. They are all members of the same party. We have APC, they are members of a party called PDP.

For those who are calling for his suspension and all that, they are not getting the point right. That man had been at the epicenter of peace. How do we resolve this matter? The governor became so hydrated, his head became bigger than his pillow”, Okocha stated
