In a strategic move to strengthen its impact in water and sanitation initiatives, Rotary International District 9127 has appointed renowned water and sanitation expert, Rotarian Joachim Ezeji, as Consultant to its Water Is Life Committee for the 2025–2026 Rotary year.
The appointment, formally conveyed by District Governor Dame Dr. Princess Joy Nky Okoro, recognizes Ezeji’s long-standing contributions to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) efforts both within and outside the Rotary community. Ezeji, who hails from RC-Garki, Abuja, brings decades of experience and a strong commitment to sustainable development to the role.
“As Consultant to the Water Is Life Committee, your expertise in water and sanitation projects, along with your commitment to service, makes you a perfect fit for this advisory role,” the appointment letter stated.
In this capacity, Ezeji will provide strategic guidance on water and sanitation projects, share best practices for sustainability, assess current and proposed initiatives, and support the committee in building partnerships with key stakeholders locally and internationally.
He is also expected to contribute to fundraising efforts by identifying potential funding sources and grants, while mentoring committee members on technical aspects of WASH projects.
The appointment comes as District 9127 intensifies its commitment to Rotary’s global cause of providing clean water and sanitation—a critical focus area in achieving long-term community health and development.
A respected voice in water and environmental circles, Ezeji’s inclusion in the Water Is Life Committee is seen as a significant boost to the district’s efforts. He is expected to leverage both his Rotary and professional experience to deliver impactful results across the region.
The District Governor also emphasized the importance of continued support to the Rotary Foundation, encouraging Ezeji to uphold Rotary’s values, including the Every Rotarian Every Year (EREY) initiative.
This latest appointment reaffirms Rotary District 9127’s dedication to expert-led solutions in addressing pressing community needs across Nigeria and beyond.
According to the statement, he is expected to mentoring and advise committee members on technical aspects of water access, sanitation, and hygiene education projects.
Dr Joachim Ezeji has over fifteen years active Rotary experience as both a Rotaractor and a Rotarian.
He has over ten -years post-doctoral program management experience in water, sanitation and hygiene, with a successful track record in the design and management of various donor funded WASH programs.
Dr Joachim has successfully facilitated policy and regulatory reform programs for UN agencies, the U.S Agency for International Development, the World Bank and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) etc.
He has experience in structuring various Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs), initiating, and delivering asset management (ISO55000) systems, leading the design of key performance indicators, aligning incentives, strengthening people and processes, defining problems, building a data-driven culture, learning and iteration, and reversing spirals of decline etc. He is skilled in both large urban and small rural water schemes, ensuring safely managed water from the entire spectrum of catchment to tap.
He is a fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Water Engineers (NIWE) and an alumnus of the Public Utility Research Centre, Warrington College of Business Administration at the University of Florida, USA. He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering (Water Management) from the School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering at Loughborough University, UK.
