ASUU damaging future of Nigerian youths, says Ebonyi Federal lawmaker

Angela Mbaocha, Abakaliki

The member representing Ikwo/Ezza South federal constituency, Ebonyi State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Chinedu Ogah, has condemned the industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), stating that they were damaging the future of Nigerian youths.

Ogah in a statement on the ASUU strike, averred that strike was not the solution to their problems and the entire country, instead they are adding more problems to existing problem. He said the action of the Nigerian Lecturers was not the best option, while urging them explore other means including dialogue.

Ogah noted that ASUU went on long strike last year and that students took advantage of their idleness as a result of the strike and got involved in the EndSars protest that threatened the nation’s security but for President Muhammdu Buhari who rose to the occasion and returned normalcy through his leadership ingenuity.
He added; “ASUU is damaging the future of Nigerian youths, they should stop playing with the future of our youths by this their incessant strike. Strike is not the solution to their problems and the entire country, rather they are adding more problems to existing problem and damaging the future of our upcoming leaders of this nation the youths.

“ASUU should learn how to use proper dialogue in solving problems rather than strikes which worsen things. ASUU caused alot of harm last year when they embarked on strike and many students who were exposed to idleness as result of the strike, were involved in many anti-social behavior-armed robbery, kidnapping and banditry”,.

For me ASUU are the most corrupt and wicked association in Nigeria. And it is high time National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) rise up and deal with their ungodly and unholy activities of ASUU.Every now and then this useless body will embark on Strike and all their salaries and allowances will be paid to them in full and the students they have denied their rights to learn will never get that due for them. They will just resume and start examination for what they did not teach. Also, most of these ASUU members have their children in private universities and in abroad yet they help to destroy the future of the ordinary Nigerians who are in public universities for their selfish interest. Also, most of these useless ASUU members don’t even go to classes to teach ,what they do is just compile handout and impose then the poor students to buy. Finally, go to most of these universities, the students buy water for both drinking, bathing, washing and others. No alternative source of power supply thereby making students to spend their feeding money in candles and alternatives. However, all these universities are generating a lot of money internally without using the revenue money to develop water infrastructure and others. Again, most of these universities have no functional health centres, and every year students pay medical fees without any meaningful health facilities in these universities. The useless ASUU members will be quick to blame the government and they themselves are privately enriching themselves from the universities internationally generated revenue and the little federal government have provided are not judiciously managed. And they keep going to strike on expense of the poor Nigeria students while their children are in abroad and in private universities studying unhindered.
Please NANS is time to call ASUU to order by force by fire.Because they want to hand over Nigeria to their children who are studying in different countries of the world in future. This is pure sabotage by this useless body called ASUU.

Hon Chinedu Ogah, because you get your emoluments in full every month, you can blame the lecturers, instead of the FG who has been unable to fulfill what was agreed with ASUU. The fat salaries and allowances of our politicians, including their flamboyant life style has increased the Operating Expenditure (OPEX) in a depressed economy.
