Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North, has expressed deep concern over the escalating insecurity in Nigeria, calling for immediate government intervention. Kalu, a former governor in Abia State and the current Chairman of the Senate Committee on South-East Development Commission (SEDC) emphasized the need for additional resource allocation to security agencies to tackle the issue effectively.
Lamenting seriously on the harm and danger of insecurity situation in the country, Kalu highlighted the deteriorating security situation, particularly in Borno State, where some areas have been lost to insurgents. He warned that if urgent action isn’t taken, the Southeast region may also be overwhelmed by terrorists.
While warning against its politicization the senator criticized the tendency of political leaders to politicize insecurity, stressing that security is a serious issue that requires a non-partisan approach.
As he called for action, Kalu therefore urged the (FG) to step up security measures in the Southeast, a crucial region for transportation of goods from ports and refineries. He also called for an end to the verbal sparring between Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, and Borno State Governor, Professor Zulum, emphasizing the need for truthful communication to President Tinubu to address the insecurity challenge.
Senator Orji Uzor kAlu Quotes this: “If the FG doesn’t take the right step in Borno State and Southeast, those areas might collapse. We can’t play politics with insecurity; we should take the art of governance very seriously. Let’s stop politics and concentrate on the economy of Nigeria. President Tinubu has done his best, let’s support him to build our economy together.”
Senator Kalu’s statement comes amid growing concerns about Nigeria’s security situation. As a seasoned politician and former Abia Governor, his insights carry significant weight. His efforts in the Senate have earned him recognition, including the Senate Press Corps Award for Constituency Development.
