The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has commissioned several development projects in Bende Federal Constituency of Abia State. The projects, which include school buildings, roads, and boreholes, are part of Kalu’s efforts to enhance the quality of life for residents in the area.
The commissioning ceremony, which took place on April 25, 2025, saw Kalu visit three wards in the constituency, including Bende town, Itumbauzo, and Uzuakoli. In the educational sector, the Deputy Speaker commissioned several school projects, including the reconstruction of classrooms and offices at various primary and secondary schools.
The school projects commissioned by Kalu include the reconstruction of 3 classrooms block with 2 offices at Okopedi Community Primary School in Itumbauzo ward, construction of 3 classrooms block with an office at Etitiulo Primary, Bende, and reconstruction of 3 classrooms block with 2 offices at Bende Secondary Grammar School.
In addition to the school projects, Kalu also commissioned several road projects, including the construction of 2 kilometers Ndiokorieukwu road, 1 kilometer Bende market-Amaogwu-Agbomiri ring road, and 800 meters Okputong-Ndiekeugo road, all in Bende Ward. In Uzuakoli Ward, the Deputy Speaker commissioned the construction of 1km Okwu-Amuhie road and 2km Ihemba road.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Kalu attributed the successful completion of the projects to the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led federal government. He expressed his gratitude to the President for making funds available for the projects, which he said would have a significant impact on the residents of Itumbauzo, Bende, and Uzuakoli Wards.
Kalu emphasized the importance of education, stating that it was key to his success and that of future generations. He urged his constituents to continue supporting President Tinubu’s administration, assuring them of more democracy dividends. The residents of the areas expressed gratitude to the Deputy Speaker for the projects, describing them as a game-changer for the communities.
The commissioning of these development projects is a testament to Kalu’s commitment to improving the lives of his constituents. The projects are expected to provide a conducive learning environment for students, improve accessibility, and facilitate economic activities in the area.
