Children’s day: NAWOJ FCT calls for reduction in out-of-school children

We celebrate our future leaders, the heartbeat of our great nation, the promise and hope of a brighter tomorrow, the children of Nigeria.

A statement by the Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ FCT Chapter, Comr. Bassey Ita Ikpang, calls on government at all levels to intensify efforts towards addressing the scourge of out-of-school children in the country.

According to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Nigeria has approximately 18.3 million out-of-school children, positioning the country with the highest number globally.

Bassey Ikpang reaffirmed the commitment of NAWOJ in recognising the importance of children in our society, promoting their well-being, rights, and education, as well as raising awareness about issues affecting their lives.

She further reiterates NAWOJ FCT collective resolve towards continuous advocacy, building inclusive, innovative, inspiring systems where every child can thrive, shine, and soar.”

The statement also urges stakeholders to be actively involved in shaping a country where every child’s potential is nurtured, their dreams protected, and future secured.
