*President asked to show courage

As President Bola Ahmed Tinubu marks his second year in office, he has been advised to show courage by sacking non performing ministers and security chiefs.
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu former Governor of Abia State and APC stalwart who made call urged the President to urgently relieve underperforming ministers and security chiefs of their duties.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Kalu who represents Abia North Senatorial District emphasized that sentimental leadership decisions could worsen Nigeria’s socio-economic instability.
To this, Kalu called on President Tinubu to demonstrate courage and sack ineffective ministers and security chiefs, citing the need for effective leadership to tackle the country’s challenges.
He stressed that there must be no sentiment when it comes to redeeming Nigeria, and that performance, not loyalty, should be the benchmark for public service.
Kalu, a serving Santor blamed worsening insecurity on political sabotage, alleging that some elite interests are sponsoring unrest to destabilize Tinubu’s administration and seize political power.
He however criticized the widespread use of US dollars in real estate and street transactions, calling it a symptom of Nigeria’s weak currency controls and a threat to economic sovereignty.
On economic patriotism, the former governor urged Nigerians to support President Tinubu’s economic policies, citing improvements in macroeconomic indicators, and emphasized the need for unity, economic patriotism, and depoliticization of national development.
Reacting to the belief that the senators are rubber stamps, Kalu rejected the claims that the Senate operates as a rubber stamp for the executive arm of government, citing the rigorous legislative process and scrutiny of bills, including the Tax Reform Bills.
He emphasized that lawmakers are doing the hard work of oversight and policy scrutiny behind the scenes, and that the Senate has rejected and sent back several executive bills.
