The member representing Aninri/Awgu/Oji River Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu, has described June 12 as a very significant factor in the history of democracy in Nigeria
In his message to mark the 2025 Democracy day in Nigeria, Hon Onwuegbu stressed that tthe events of June 12 inspired the present democratic process practiced in Nigeria today.
His message reads, “June 12 is significant in our democratic history as it marks the day Nigerians suffrage was used universally to lay foundation for democracy we are enjoying today”.
The Federal Lawmaker expressed his overwhelming support to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu in commemorating the sacrifices many Nigerians,whom he described as ‘Our Democratic Heroes’for the process to strive in Nigeria.
He stated further, “Today,June 12,We celebrate a monumental day in our nation’s history. I join our President and Governor in saluting the unwavering courage of our Democratic Heroes who bravely fought for our freedom and some of whom made the ultimate sacrifice for the democracy we cherish today”.
Hon.Onwuegbu tasked his constituents and other Nigerians to nurture and protect the democratic process in Nigeria, as a measure of ensuring that the voices of all Nigerians are heard and valued.
