The Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Philip J. Pierre, has extended the condolences of his countrymen to Nigeria on the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
A statement issued by Pierre’s office on Monday recalled that Buhari served Nigeria with discipline and conviction-first as Head of State from 1984 to 1985, and later as democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023.
He also noted that Buhari’s leadership spanned critical moments in Nigeria’s modern history, marked by his enduring belief in national sovereignty, public integrity, and institutional discipline.
“At this moment of reflection for the Nigerian people, Saint Lucia stands in solemn solidarity with our African brothers and sisters. We honour not only the service of a former leader, but the democratic resilience of a nation that continues to shape the destiny of the continent.
“As Saint Lucia deepens its engagement with the Federal Republic of Nigeria, we do so with a spirit of mutual respect, shared heritage, and principled diplomacy.
“We extend special sympathies to the Buhari family, the people of Katsina State, and the leadership and citizens of the Daura Emirate. May his soul rest in peace”, said the statement signed by him.
