The International Legislative Exchange Programme (ILEP) – Diplomatic CSR Roundtable convened by the House of Representatives Committee on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cyber Future Academy (CFA), has brought together diplomats, international development partners, corporate leaders and key government agencies in Abuja.
The high-level meeting, held on August 27, 2025, at the Rotunda Conference Room of the Ministry, focused on the theme: “Global CSR Diplomacy – Advancing Digital Inclusion, Sustainable Development and Institutional Collaboration.”
Envoys from the United States, Spain, Belgium, China, Mexico, India, Brazil, Romania, Argentina and the Czech Republic, as well as representatives of UNDP and the British High Commission, engaged robustly during the Diplomatic CSR Dialogue Session. They commended Nigeria’s strides in institutionalising CSR legislation and pledged support for the proposed CSR4Dev AI Innovation Centre — a modular, solar-powered hub designed to empower Nigerian youths with digital skills and entrepreneurial opportunities.
British Council Programme Manager, Mr. Chikodi Onyemera, in his intervention, described CSR diplomacy as a vehicle for connecting Nigeria’s potential with global opportunities. “This is more than a Nigerian initiative; it is a global partnership in the making — an opportunity for every embassy and mission represented here to align with Nigeria’s aspiration for sustainable growth and human capital transformation,” he stated.
The private sector, represented by leading corporates, fintech innovators, and telecom operators, pledged support for the newly launched Nigeria CSR Fund — a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to harness corporate resources in accelerating the SDGs. A delegate from Atlanta, USA, Ms. Mea Boykins, stressed that CSR had gone beyond philanthropy, noting: “Around the world, we see CSR integrated into diplomacy – from climate agreements to digital inclusion projects. Today’s conversation is about connecting the dots and crafting models that work for Nigeria.”
Senior representatives of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), National Universities Commission (NUC), National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) and Galaxy Backbone outlined government strategies to ensure digital inclusion and youth empowerment.
Program Coordinator of the Diplomatic CSR Roundtable, Mr. Collins Nnabugwu, unveiled the CSR4Dev AI Innovation Centre, citing global best practices. “Artificial intelligence and digital innovation are reshaping economies. Nigeria may not yet have the resources of the US, China or Europe, but what we do have is talent, creativity and the willingness to start,” he declared.
Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on CSR, Hon. Afolabi Afuape, reinforced the call for collective investment in Nigeria’s youth, describing them as the drivers of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
The roundtable concluded with the formal launch of the Nigeria CSR Fund, attracting pledges from ambassadors, agencies and corporate leaders.
With this milestone, the ILEP – Diplomatic CSR Roundtable has laid the foundation for annual engagements that align Nigeria’s CSR ecosystem with global development priorities, thereby strengthening the nexus between diplomacy, private sector innovation and sustainable growth.
