There was jubilation among Karu residents as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, flagged off the reconstruction of strategic roads in the area.
During the flagg off on Wednesday, senator Philip Aduda, a native of the area, and the chairman Abuja Municipal Area Council, Christopher Maikàlangu with other residents could not hide their feelings as they danced to the stage in appreciation of the minister for granting their request.
The Sa’ Karuyi, Joseph Danfulani commended the minister for considering the people of Karu by awarding projects that will have direct impact on them.
The long-awaited roads for rehabilitation as announced by Wike include; Peshe, popularly known as Zumuta road, Customs clinic to CBN junction, Customs clinic to EFCC Academy, NIA quarters, and Premium Hospital area.
Speaking at the event, the minister, Nyesom Wike said the project was a fulfillment of President Bola Tinubu’s promise to the people, followed by custand reminder from Philip Aduda and Christopher Maikàlangu.
Wike said as another way to give Karu facelift beyond a satellite town, the roads will be provided with street light to boost business activities.
He called on the contractor to ensure that the project is completed within 10 months, saying his administration would not tolerate excuses.
“Remember, I said before, that it’s important that when you have elected people, and when the people you have elected have made promises, they owe you that duty to fulfil the promises. And therefore, you have to hold us accountable.
“When you have fulfilled part of your covenant by voting for people, ask them questions. You told us we won’t vote for you, this is what you are going to do for us. Have you done it? And so, Mr. President made a promise that he was going to develop the city, at the same time develop the satellite area. And you make sure you get the benefits you are entitled to. And so we have added these other roads to this road we are doing now.
“We are going to reconstruct Custom Clinic Junction to CBN Quarters Junction. We are going to rebuild Custom Clinic Junction to EFCC, NIA Quarters road, We are going to rebuild Peshe road. And the Premium Hospital road, that is why the essence of the Renewed Hope Agenda is to bring back hope to the people. And I know that the people of Karu hope has come back. We are not just doing this road. They will all have street lights” Wike said.
In her remarks, the Minister of state for the FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, stressed the importance of the project to the residents of Karu and its environs.
She emphasized that the project would significantly contribute to the decongestion of traffic linking Karu with other parts of Abuja, saying it would ensure smoother movement for commuters and goods.
Mahmoud thanked president Bola Tinubu for his Renewed Hope Agenda for life-transforming infrastructural projects.
