Nigeria marks 65 years of independence with public holiday on Wednesday

The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, October 1st, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary. According to a press release signed by Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior on Monday, the declaration was made by the Honourable Minister of Interior, Hon. (Dr.) Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who congratulated all Nigerians at home and abroad on this historic occasion.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo urged citizens to uphold the patriotic spirit, unity, and resilience that have sustained the nation since independence in 1960. He also encouraged Nigerians to maintain faith in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at national rebirth, economic transformation, and collective prosperity.

The Minister expressed confidence that, with collective effort, Nigeria will continue to grow stronger in peace, progress, and development. He wished Nigerians a happy and memorable 2025 Independence Day celebration.

As the nation marks this milestone, citizens are expected to reflect on the country’s progress and look forward to a brighter future. The public holiday is a testament to the significance of this occasion and the government’s commitment to celebrating Nigeria’s heritage.
