The Ibibio Traditional Council in Akwa Ibom State has expressed unwavering support for Senate President Godswill Akpabio, praising his accomplishments in office and reaffirming their confidence in his leadership.
This was contained in a press release from Jackson Udom, Special Assistant to the Senate President on Media within the weekend.
In a show of solidarity, the Oku Ibom Ibibio, His Eminence, Ntenyin (Dr.) Solomon Daniel Etuk, received Akpabio and his entourage in his palace in Nsit Ubium, describing him as “our son” and expressing pride in his achievements as Senate President.
“We know what he can do and we are very proud of his achievements in his current office,” Etuk said, condemning the recent campaign of calumny against Akpabio on social media.
Akpabio, in his response, thanked the royal fathers for their warm reception and described the visit as a major reconciliation move aimed at promoting peace, love, and unity in Akwa Ibom State.
He pledged to support Governor Umo Eno’s re-election bid and assured the monarchs of his commitment to working for the development of the state, highlighting the recently passed bill on defilement of minors as a testament to his dedication ¹ ².
The visit underscores the strong bond between Akpabio and the Ibibio Traditional Council, with Etuk urging the Senate President to ensure the realization of Akwa Ibom State’s seaport dream.
This development comes amid tensions surrounding the proposed creation of Obolo State, with the Ibibio people opposing the plan to protect their ancestral land.
