Insecurity: FG orders immediate closure of 41 unity colleges

The Federal Government has ordered the immediate shutdown of 41 Federal Government Colleges located across the northern region, citing escalating security threats.

In a circular issued by the Director of Senior Secondary Education, Binta Abdulkadir, on behalf of the Minister of Education, Maruf Alausa, the ministry said the decision became necessary in light of the prevailing insecurity across the country.

The notice, addressed to principals of the affected institutions, stated:
“CLOSURE OF FORTY-ONE (41) FEDERAL UNITY COLLEGES
“Sequel to the recent security challenges in some parts of the countryand the need to prevent any security breaches, the Honourable Minister of Education has approved the immediate closure of the listed Federal Unity Colleges (FUCS) with immediate effect.
“Principals of affected Colleges are to ensure strict compliance..”

The schools listed for closure include:

The AUTHORITY reports that bandits have recently targeted several schools, leading to the abduction of students and staff.
