The National Industrial Court in Abuja has halted the ongoing strike by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), workers.
This follows an Order of Interlocutory Injunction, by Justice E. Subilim which granted an application filed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the administration, stopping leaders of the union from continuing with the strike.
The workers under the umbrella of Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) had on Monday, embarked on an indefinite strike to press home their welfare demands.
The court prohibits the leaders, workers’ union, their agents, and members from embarking on strikes, picketing, lockouts, road blockades, or any action aimed at shutting down the administration’s activities.
The defendants, Rifkatu Iortyer and Abdullahi Umar Saleh, identified as President and Secretary of the Joint Unions Action Committee (JUAC) were not present in court.
The FCTA’s legal team, led by Dr Ogwu J. Onoja, SAN, argued that the proposed strike was illegal and would paralyse the administration’s operations.
Justice Subilim held that the applicants had established a case warranting judicial intervention.
Reacting, the union through its Publicity Secretary, Holina Adejo said the strike continue, directing members to remain at home.
In a message sent to the workers titled, “Important announcement” on Thursday, said ‘code continue to stay at home.
“The strike action continues until our demands are met. The union wishes to bring to the notice of all staff that the minister of FCT has taken us to court.
“We will not relent in the struggle as well as allow agents of oppression to cow us into submission” It said.
