Gov. Mbah’s new appointments : Ogbodo retains local govt, rural devt ministry as Egumgbe takes over chieftaincy affairs

From Maurice Okafor, Enugu.

The dynamism introduced in the administration of Enugu state by Governor Peter Mbah for improved performance has led to the split of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Chieftaincy Affairs, into two.

Hon.Deacon Okey Ogbodo fondly referred as ‘triple commissioner’ will now head the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, while Barr. Charles Egumgbe, the pioneer state chairman of PDP in Enugu state, who is just coming on board Governor Mbah administration is in charge of Chieftaincy Affairs.

Hon. Deacon Okey Ogbodo confirmed the development in the ministry through a telephone chat with ‘The Authority Newspaper’, stating that it is part of efforts to consolidate on the democratic gains of the present administration in Enugu state under Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.

Checks revealed that the once triple commissioner spent extra hours in office, closed late and often worked during the weekends, in trying to meet up with the challenges of combining his duties as Commissioner for Local Government, Rural Development and Chieftaincy Affairs, the trio of which often involves interface with the rurals and field work for proper execution.

Thus, Governor Mbah’s decision of splitting the ministry, in his recent appointments is viewed across quarters as a right step in a right direction.

Further checks revealed that both Barr.Charles Egumgbe and Hon. Deacon Ogbodo are two of a kind, when it comes to party politics and governance. Both were part of ex -Senator Chimaroke Nnamani administration of Enugu state, at the inception of fourth republic democratic governance in 1999 and remains relevance in the politics of the state.

Meanwhile, Barr Charles Egumgbe and Barr Osinachi Nnajieze who was the Special Adviser on Legal Matters to Governor Mbah before his appointment has replaced Dr. Kingsley Udeh, current Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, as the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Enugu state.

Barr. Nnajieze and Barr Charles Egumgbe were inaugurated on Tuesday, December 23rd, at executive Chambers of Enugu state government house to commence duties immediately.
