Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika, representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency, has advocated for a dedicated land reservation framework for the original inhabitants of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Obika made this call during an interactive session with the House Committee on Area Councils and Ancillary Matters, alongside the Department of Resettlement and Compensation of the FCT Administration.
He stressed the need to address the welfare and historical rights of indigenous communities affected by the territory’s development, proposing a robust agency to oversee resettlement and compensation.
The lawmaker suggested Public-Private Partnership arrangements to fast-track resettlement projects, providing infrastructure and housing for displaced persons while ensuring sustainable community development.
The interactive session aimed to address challenges facing area councils and propose legislative solutions for effective resettlement and compensation of FCT indigenes.
