Guaranty Trust Bank Limited (GTBank), the flagship banking subsidiary of Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc (GTCO), has announced that customers can now add their debit cards to Google Wallet and use Google Pay to make online payments locally and internationally.
The new service is designed to make digital transactions faster, easier and more convenient by allowing customers to complete eligible online purchases without repeatedly entering their card details at checkout.
Under the arrangement, customers can select Google Pay as their payment option when making purchases online and confirm the transaction to complete payment.
The service covers a range of everyday transactions, including subscriptions, flight and hotel bookings, food orders, purchases of goods and services, bill payments, membership renewals and access to digital services.
According to the bank, the integration provides customers with access to a widely accepted digital payment solution available across multiple countries and regions.
GTBank said security remains central to the service, noting that Google Pay incorporates safeguards designed to help protect customers’ payment information during online transactions.
The bank explained that combining these security features with a simplified payment process would provide customers with greater convenience and confidence when conducting online transactions.
Commenting on the launch, GTBank’s Managing Director, Mrs Miriam Olusanya, said the initiative responds to customers’ growing demand for simpler and more secure ways to make payments locally and internationally.
“Our customers are increasingly looking for simpler and more secure ways to pay online, both locally and internationally,” Olusanya said.
She explained that enabling customers to add their GTBank debit cards to Google Wallet would improve convenience and provide access to a globally recognised digital payment solution.
According to her, customers can now complete online payments more seamlessly without repeatedly entering their card details.
Olusanya added that the introduction of the service reflects the bank’s commitment to reducing friction in everyday banking and delivering solutions suited to customers’ increasingly digital lifestyles.
She noted that Google Pay provides flexibility for online payments while supporting a convenient and secure payment experience.
“As part of the Group, we remain committed to advancing our shared vision of leveraging technology to make end-to-end financial services more accessible and intuitive for everyone,” she said.
The bank stated that the introduction of Google Pay reinforces its commitment to improving digital banking services and expanding the payment options available to customers.
GTCO Plc, the parent company of GTBank, is a financial services group with operations across Africa and the United Kingdom.
The group provides banking and non-banking services, including payments, funds management and pension fund administration. It has also emphasised corporate governance, innovation and customer-focused financial solutions as part of its strategy to deliver long-term value to stakeholders.
The launch adds another digital payment option for GTBank customers seeking convenient ways to pay for goods and services online across local and international markets.
