Adamawa State government says it has concluded arrangement to recruit additional 5,000 teachers to drive education development in the state.
Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Garba Pella disclosed this at a news conference on Monday in Yola in commemoration of 2026 International Day for Education organised in collaboration with Education in Emergency Working Group (EiEWG).
The theme of the commemoration is “The power of Youth in Co-creating Education”.
He said the Ahmadu Fintiri administration had employed 2,000 teachers in 2022 and now to recruit 5,000 to fill in the gaps due to the construction of more schools in the state.
Pella, who recalled that the process began late 2025, said that screening and interviews had been conducted already.
“We have also built 21 Model Basic Education Schools ready for take-off by next term, beside general rehabilitation of 68 Secondary Schools,” he said.
According to him, the Almajiri system of education has now integrated into the formal learning centre where they were receiving English and Mathematics education to be able to read and write.
“This helps in reducing children roaming the streets.
“The state government has now increased the budgetary allocation to education sector to cover some gaps due to withdrawal of some partners not only in the state but the country at large,” he noted.
The commissioner further called on parents, communities and educators to continue supporting the young people to promote education development in the state.
Pella said youth were agents of change in achieving inclusive and equitable quality education and building peaceful, just and inclusive society.
The state government in collaboration with the EiEWG also organised a spelling Bee and Debate competition among the pupils in public schools to commemorate the day.
