The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) has concluded investigations into the alleged acts of indiscipline involving sixteen officers and assured that all those to be tried will be accorded fair hearing in line with military law and due process.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the military disclosed that the investigation report has been forwarded to the appropriate superior authority in accordance with extant regulations.
The probe followed the arrest of the officers in October 2025 over breaches of service regulations.
According to the AFN, the investigation was conducted strictly in line with established military procedures and examined all circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected personnel.
The findings, the statement noted, identified a number of officers facing allegations related to plotting to overthrow the government—acts described as inconsistent with the ethics, values, and professional standards expected of members of the Armed Forces.
Major General Uba emphasized that only officers found to have cases to answer would be formally arraigned before appropriate military judicial panels. He stressed that the trial process would be guided by the provisions of the Armed Forces Act and other applicable service regulations, guaranteeing fairness, impartiality, and respect for the rights of the accused.
“The measures being taken are purely disciplinary and form part of established institutional mechanisms to preserve order, discipline, and operational effectiveness within the ranks,” the statement said.
The AFN reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, professionalism, and loyalty to constitutional authority, assuring the public that the ongoing actions are aimed at strengthening discipline while upholding justice and due process within the military.
