Passengers who planned to travel from Enugu airport this morning, Friday, February 6,are stranded.
The Authority gathered that protesting aviation workers waged every operation at the airport.
It is asserted that the protest stemmed from the recent concessioning of the Airport by the Nigerian Government.
Uncomfirned sources alleged that the Airport was concessionned without taking into consideration the welfare of the workers.
A worker who don’t want to be quoted in print said,” All we know is that they said full concessioning will come into effect in two years’ time.
“But nothing was said about the future of the workers when the new owners take over.
“Aviation unions have made several efforts to engage them, including one of the South-East governors and a popular billionaire investor from Anambra State, but they are not forthcoming on their plans for the workers.
“So, this morning, the workers received a directive from the national offices of the aviation unions to shut down the flight operations; that’s exactly what is happening,” one of the aviation workers.
As of the time of filing this report, all the passengers have been chased outside of the waiting lounge, leaving them stranded.
Enugu bound flights from Abuja and Lagos have also been shelved, a source also told our correspondent.
