Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has dedicated his emergence as one of LEADERSHIP Newspaper’s 2025 Governors of the Year to the people of Delta State, describing the honour as a national validation of his administration’s development-driven MORE Agenda.
Represented by his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, at the 18th LEADERSHIP Conference and Awards held on Thursday at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja, Governor Oborevwori expressed gratitude to the management of LEADERSHIP Newspaper for what he called its consistent support and objective assessment of his government’s performance.
He said the award reflects the tangible progress recorded in infrastructure renewal, human capital development, healthcare expansion and educational advancement since the inception of his administration.
Highlighting key achievements, the governor noted the execution of numerous road and bridge projects aimed at opening up rural communities, enhancing connectivity and stimulating economic growth across the state.
He also underscored Delta State’s unique position as the only state in Nigeria with four state-owned universities, describing it as a deliberate strategy to build a knowledge-based economy and secure the future of the younger generation.
“This recognition affirms that our efforts are being acknowledged across the nation. It is both an honour and a motivation for us to intensify our commitment to delivering more dividends of democracy to our people,” he said.
Governor Oborevwori thanked God for the recognition and commended LEADERSHIP Newspaper for sustaining a credible award process founded on critical evaluation and national impact.
He was honoured alongside five other governors — Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara) and Uba Sani (Kaduna) — recognised for outstanding leadership, infrastructural transformation, fiscal discipline and security improvements in their states.
The ceremony attracted high-profile dignitaries, including the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps and elder statesmen, while the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Dr. Amina Mohammed, delivered the keynote address.
Reaffirming his administration’s direction, Oborevwori pledged to sustain reforms and accelerate development across Delta State.
