IGP, Mr Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has been relieved of his position by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Sources from senior police officers and the police service commission, PSC, reportedly confirmed on Tuesday that Tinubu ordered Egbetokun’s removal from office.
Allegedly, he is to be succeeded by Tunji Disu, an Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, in charge of Force criminal investigation department, FCID, annex, Alagbon, Lagos.
One of the sources told online newspaper — SaharaReporters thus: “Egbetokun was at the presidential villa yesterday and was told to go and prepare his handover notes. I believe he has done that already, and he will be handing over to Tunji Disu”.
Another source alleged that the president asked Egbetokun to step aside amid mountain controversies and health concerns.
“He is incompetent and the scandals are just too many. He is power-drunk. The president said he should leave to focus on getting treatment for himself. You know, he has kidney related medical issues,” the source claimed.
Yet another source claimed that police officers jubilated when they heard the news, stating that the Ist Lady, Remi Tinubu, wanted him to remain in office, despite the scandals, but the president was adamant.
