President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reappointed Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security & Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for a new five-year term, effective from February 27, 2026.
The reappointment was announced by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, who stated that Dr. Audi’s renewed mandate is aimed at strengthening the country’s security architecture.
Dr. Audi was first appointed to the position in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari and has been tasked by President Tinubu to reposition the NSCDC to play a more significant role in the country’s security, particularly as the police refocus on their primary responsibility of protecting citizens from bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists.
Dr. Audi, born on September 30, 1967, in Laminga Town, Nasarawa LGA, Nasarawa State, has a strong educational background, having obtained a Teachers’ Grade II Certificate in 1987, a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) in 1992, and a bachelor’s degree in Physical and Health Education from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1995.
He has also earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Calabar in 2001, a PhD in Public Administration from Nasarawa State University, Keffi, in 2014, and a Master’s in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice (MLCJ) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 2019.
Dr. Audi joined the NSCDC in November 1996 as a volunteer and has served in various state commands, rising to the rank of Commandant in 2007. He will resume his duties on Monday with a renewed mandate.
The reappointment is seen as a vote of confidence in Dr. Audi’s leadership and a commitment to strengthening the country’s security institutions.
