The convention, which holds later this year is expected to renew the party’s leadership structures and set the direction for its future political activities.

Speaking at the inaugural meeting in Abuja on Friday, Musa, who chairs the committee, said the National Convention is a critical event in the life of any political party and must be conducted in a secure, orderly, and peaceful environment.

He noted that the convention of the ruling party would attract thousands of delegates, party leaders, government officials, and observers from across the country and beyond, making it necessary to put in place a robust security architecture.

“The National Convention is one of the most important events in the life of a political party. It provides the platform for renewing leadership structures, consolidating internal democracy, and reinforcing the party’s vision for national development,” Musa said.

According to him, large political gatherings often present complex security considerations that must be carefully anticipated and professionally managed.

“The establishment of this committee underscores the party’s commitment to ensuring that the convention is conducted in a secure and peaceful atmosphere,” he said. “Our task is to develop and coordinate a comprehensive security framework that will guarantee the safety of delegates, party leaders, invited dignitaries, media representatives, and all other participants.”

Musa stressed the need for a thorough assessment of potential risks and vulnerabilities ahead of the convention, adding that the committee must adopt a preventive approach rather than a reactive one.

He also emphasized the importance of strong collaboration among security, intelligence, and law enforcement agencies expected to support the convention’s security operations.

“The success of our assignment will depend largely on our ability to work closely with the various security and intelligence agencies responsible for maintaining law and order,” he said. “Each agency brings unique capabilities and resources, and our responsibility is to ensure these are harmonized within a unified operational framework.”

The defence minister urged committee members to carry out their duties with professionalism, discipline, and mutual respect, noting that the convention must reflect the highest standards of organization expected of a ruling political party.

He further reminded members that time was critical, calling for focused deliberations and timely decisions to allow operational preparations to begin without delay.

“With the wealth of experience represented in this committee, I am confident we will deliver a security framework that ensures a smooth and successful convention,” Musa added.
