Akume, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office (GSO), Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, mni, met with key stakeholders in Abuja on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, to deliberate on the Federal Government’s position regarding the review of the vertical revenue allocation formula.

At the meeting, stakeholders engaged in extensive discussions on the need to realign the existing revenue-sharing arrangement among the three tiers of government in line with current economic realities, development priorities, and demands for greater fiscal sustainability.

Speaking on behalf of the SGF, Dr. Kana tasked the stakeholders to accelerate their work and ensure the early submission of a comprehensive report to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, stressing the urgency attached to the assignment.

He noted that the review process is pivotal to strengthening fiscal federalism, enhancing accountability, and promoting balanced development across the federation, particularly at a time when subnational governments face increasing financial pressures.

The ongoing review is expected to provide a framework that will not only address longstanding concerns over revenue distribution but also support the broader economic reform agenda of the Tinubu administration.
