Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have recorded fresh battlefield successes in Zamfara State following coordinated offensives against suspecte terrorists in Zurmi Local Government Area.
Security sources disclosed that troops of 1 Brigade Counter-Terrorism Unit 5, working in synergy with a Tactical Combat Mobile Strike Team, carried out the operation on March 25 in Dutsi village, Moriki District.
The troops reportedly made contact with the terrorists during the assault and engaged them in a fierce firefight, forcing the criminals to retreat in disarray.
Sources added that the fleeing elements were trailed by the advancing troops, although no further contact was established during the pursuit.
Subsequent exploitation of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one magazine and 26 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
In a related operation later that day around 4:00 p.m., the troops extended the offensive to Gandu village within the same district.
While advancing towards suspected terrorist positions on elevated terrain, the troops again engaged fleeing elements, further disrupting their movement and denying them freedom of action across the area.
