COVID-19 : Niger tracked 59 year-old man with symptoms

The Niger state government has tracked down a 59 year-old man who has arrived from Lagos and show symptoms of COVID 19 along with 26 other passengers have been quarantined 27 in Minna the Niger state capital

Report from from makera community of the state made members of the task force to swing into action when they were told that a suspected COVID-19 infected person is alleged to have come in contact with several passengers in a truck from Lagos

The state Commissioner of health, Dr Mohamned Maku Sidi who broke the news to journalist yesterday in Minna during a visit with the state task force on COVID-19 to the state isolation centre said that the twenty seven of them have been quarantine .

He said that the task force received a report that a 59 year old man had arrived from Lagos to Mashegu area and was exhibiting symptoms of covid-19.

“The community reported the case to authorities but the man ran away from the community into Makera market where he boarded a truck to escape to another part of the state and there were 26 other passengers in the truck when it was finally tracked by the taskforce”.

He said “all the passengers and the man have been quarantined in Minna isolation centre for close monitoring. There blood samples have been taken to Abuja and results are expected next week”.

Chairman of the taskforce and secretary to the Niger State Government, Ahmed Ibrahim Matane has assured that intensive survielance wwould be mounted in the border areas of Niger and other state.

He than thump up to all the security agencies who have enforced compliance of the restriction order and scored 70 percent and said the government will continue to appeal to the people to stay at home.
