Dr. Chibuike Echem, has officially declared his intention to run for the House of Representatives seat for Orumba North and South Federal Constituency under the Labour Party (LP).

Speaking ahead of a grand reception in his community, Ogbunka, scheduled for Sunday, August 23, Dr. Echem said the event will serve as an official declaration of his candidacy and a call to action for his constituents.

Echem, who holds the traditional title of Okenwa Ogbunka, described Ogbunka as one of the most politically active communities in Orumba South. He lamented that despite years of support for other candidates, the area has not received adequate representation.

“This is the time for other people to support us, so we can bring quality representation to our constituency,” he said. He noted that the gathering at Ogbunka Civic Center will bring together sons and daughters of the community for the presentation of his candidacy.

On his acceptability, the LP candidate said he enjoys strong support among youths and the elderly in Ogbunka, citing past efforts in empowerment, scholarships, and donation of sporting equipment as evidence of his commitment.

Addressing concerns about political promises, Echem said his focus is to engrave his name in the hearts of the people through good governance and lasting legacies. “Good name is better than everything,” he stated.

He cited the governance style of Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, as a model, emphasizing empathy, compassion, and understanding as key to accepted leadership.

A major pillar of his manifesto, according to him, is quarterly town hall meetings. “I am going to make sure that every quarter I sit down in a town hall meeting with Ndi Orumba to examine what we have done, as well as what they need in terms of quality motions and legislations” he said.

Echem also defended the LP as a viable platform, arguing that Nigerians now vote for candidates rather than parties. “People vote individuals that their heart accept,” he said.

He urged constituents to shun money politics and vote for competence, capacity, and service delivery. He promised to prioritize youth, women, education, healthcare, and agriculture if elected, and said his first legislative motion will be determined after consultations with the people.
