The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced an adjustment for its 2026 primary elections, alongside a review of nomination fees, following consultations with party leaders, aspirants, and stakeholders nationwide.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the adjustments were aimed at strengthening internal democracy, enhancing inclusivity, and ensuring broader participation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the revised timetable, the sale of nomination forms will now hold between May 1 and May 4, 2026. The window for purchase and submission of completed forms is scheduled from May 6 to May 13, with the final deadline set for May 13.
Screening of aspirants will take place on May 14 and May 15, while the results will be published on May 17. The party fixed May 18 and May 19 for appeals, with the final list of cleared aspirants to be released on May 20.
The ADC said primary elections for State Houses of Assembly, House of Representatives, and Senate seats will be conducted on May 21, followed by governorship primaries on May 22. The presidential primary election is slated for May 23.
The schedule will culminate in a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on May 25 and a Special National Convention on May 26, where final ratifications are expected.
Alongside the revised timetable, the party also approved new nomination fees. The presidential form was reduced to N90 million, governorship to N30 million, Senate remains at N10 million, House of Representatives at N5 million, and State Houses of Assembly at N2 million.
Despite the adjustments, the party retained its concessionary policy, offering a 50 per cent discount to youth aspirants aged between 18 and 35, and a 25 per cent reduction for women and persons living with disabilities.
The ADC urged all aspirants and stakeholders to adhere strictly to the updated guidelines, reiterating its commitment to presenting credible candidates and providing Nigerians with a viable political alternative in the 2027 elections.
