Troops of 8 Division Operation FANSAN YANMA have overrun suspected terrorist enclaves during a clearance operation in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Security sources said the operation was carried out at about 4:00 a.m. on May 20 following intelligence on the activities of terrorists within the area.
The troops reportedly advanced on suspected hideouts located around Shadadi village where they came under attack from the terrorists, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.
The operation, which was supported by drone surveillance, enabled the troops to overpower the terrorists and successfully overrun their positions.
During the operation, troops recovered one magazine loaded with 15 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ammunition and three motorcycles believed to have been used by the terrorists.
Several life-support structures used by the criminals within the enclave were also destroyed during the offensive.
Military sources disclosed that one soldier sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter and was immediately stabilised before being moved for further medical attention.
The operation forms part of ongoing offensives aimed at dismantling terrorist and bandit networks operating within parts of the North-West.
Security sources said troops had continued aggressive clearance operations and domination patrols to deny criminal elements freedom of action across the region.
