Bauchi Police Begin Crackdown On Vehicles With Covered, Unauthorized, Missing Number Plates

By George Coben, Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has, on Monday, began enforcement operation against vehicles with covered, unauthorized, defaced or no registration number plates.

CP, Mr Sani-Omolori Aliyu, said that the exercise is in compliance with the directives of the IGP Mr Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

A statement issued by the police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, said that the CP has directed all area commanders and DPOs across the 20 LGAs of the state to ensure effective compliance within their areas of responsibility.

He ordered for prompt impoundment and subjection to proper investigation in accordance with existing laws of any vehicles found in violation.

“The good people of Bauchi are urged to note that this operation is not an attempt to harass law-abiding citizens but a targeted security strategy.

“Obscured or missing number plates remain a key tool used by criminal elements to evade detection, commit crimes and disappear untraced.

“This exercise will therefore enhance police capacity to identify vehicles, track suspects and respond swiftly to security incidents across the state,” the statement said.

It consequently advised all motorists and vehicle owners to ensure their vehicles display valid, official and clearly visible registration plates at all times, urging drivers to keep all vehicle documents current and available for inspection.

The statement reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, appealing for cooperation from the public for the success of the operation.

It further urged that the police can be reached on line number 08151849417 to report any suspicious vehicles, movements or activities.
