Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has hailed blood donors across the world for their selfless sacrifices in saving lives, describing them as “heroes of life.”
In a message to commemorate the 2026 World Blood Donor Day on Sunday, Mrs. Tinubu joined the global community in celebrating millions of voluntary blood donors whose contributions continue to offer hope to patients in need of life-saving transfusions.
The 2026 celebration is themed, “Honoring the Heroes of Life.”
The First Lady said blood donors play a critical role in supporting healthcare systems by ensuring the availability of safe and reliable blood for emergencies and treatment of critical illnesses.
According to her, blood donation remains one of the simplest but most impactful acts of compassion, as it directly saves lives and strengthens healthcare delivery.
She stressed that a dependable blood supply is essential for building an effective and resilient healthcare system capable of meeting the needs of communities across the country.
Mrs. Tinubu also called on more Nigerians, particularly young people, to embrace voluntary blood donation to help ensure that safe blood is readily available at all times.
She urged citizens to cultivate the habit of regular blood donation as a contribution toward improving national healthcare outcomes.
