The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has released its April 2026 Performance Fact Sheet on Nigeria’s electricity distribution companies (DisCos), showing improvements in collection efficiency and revenue recovery despite a slight decline in billing efficiency.

According to the report, the electricity distribution segment recorded mixed performance during the month, with most key operational and financial indicators posting positive growth.

NERC disclosed that the industry’s billing efficiency declined marginally by 0.57 percentage points to 83.32 per cent. During the month, DisCos billed customers ₦252.43 billion out of the ₦302.96 billion worth of energy received.

However, collection efficiency improved to 80.66 per cent, enabling the distribution companies to collect a total of ₦203.61 billion in revenue for April 2026.

The regulator also reported an increase in revenue recovery efficiency, which rose to 82.11 per cent, representing a 1.06 percentage-point improvement over the previous month. The indicator measures the proportion of the total energy received by DisCos that is ultimately converted into collected revenue.

Among the electricity distribution companies, Eko Electricity Distribution Company emerged as the top performer with a recovery efficiency of 102.09 per cent, followed by Abuja Electricity Distribution Company at 89.77 per cent and Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company at 88.89 per cent.

On the other hand, Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company recorded the lowest recovery efficiency at 43.15 per cent, while Kano Electricity Distribution Company and Jos Electricity Distribution Company posted 51.87 per cent and 52.48 per cent, respectively.

Overall, the April 2026 performance report indicates continued improvement in the financial performance of Nigeria’s electricity distribution companies, with gains in revenue collection and recovery offsetting the slight decline in billing efficiency.
