Bauchi Police Burst Livestock Theft Syndicate, Recover 18 Rams Worth N7m

The police in Bauchi have arrested one 58 years old Sayyadi Abubakar, of Tahoua town, Maradi state, in Niger Republic, and recovered 18 stolen rams, worth #7 million.

A statement issued by the Bauchi State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, indicated that other accomplices of the suspect are at large.

The statement said that the arrest took place when, acting on information received early hours of 19th May 2026, the police intercepted 2 vehicles loaded with 18 rams, along Gubi road, Bauchi.

They were a white Hummer bus with registration number DELTA WW-882 ZR and a dark ash Toyota Camry car with registration number BAUCHI NNG-293-AA.

According to the statement, during interrogation, the suspect confessed to conspiring with one Alhaji Ibrahim and 4 other accomplices, all of the same address.

The group allegedly stole the rams from a location opposite A.A. Kunya Filling Station, along Murtala Mohammed Way, Bauchi.

It said that the syndicate is known to replace vehicle number plates with those of any states they visit to facilitate their criminal activities.

The command said efforts are on going to apprehend the fleeing suspects, adding that upon conclusion of investigation they will be charged to court.

The CP Mr Sani-Omolori Aliyu, who assured of the command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities, urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to aid security operations.
