Akpabio paid tribute to the late Senator Godiya Akwashiki, who represented Nasarawa North Senatorial District, describing his passing as a profound loss to the institution and the country. Senators observed a minute of silence in his honor.

The Senate President highlighted the importance of partnerships, citing Nigeria’s collaboration with the United States in the fight against terrorism. He also expressed sympathy for families affected by insecurity and called for urgent action to address food insecurity, warning that 35 million Nigerians may face hunger this year.

Akpabio urged political parties and actors to prioritize Nigeria’s unity and stability, emphasizing the need for responsible discourse and principled competition. He encouraged Nigerians to continue praying for citizens in captivity and supporting the Renewed Hope Programme.

The Senate will prioritize laws that unlock growth, strengthen institutions, and restore confidence in the Nigerian state. Akpabio emphasized the need for rigorous scrutiny of the budget, responsible passage, and faithful implementation.

The final phase of the 10th Senate must be reform-driven, with a focus on completing unfinished business and leaving a legislative legacy. Akpabio urged senators to work collaboratively with stakeholders, guided by mutual respect and constitutional responsibility.

The Senate President reminded senators of their assignment: to serve Nigerians, hear their cries, and give voice to their hopes. He called for decisive action, urging senators to run harder, think deeper, and serve better.

The clock is running, and history is taking notes. Akpabio expressed confidence that the 10th Senate will rise to the occasion, leaving a lasting legacy.

The Senate’s work ahead requires sustained collaboration and cooperation. Akpabio emphasized the importance of institutions being stronger than individuals and laws serving the people.

Akpabio concluded: “Let it be said that when the Tenth Senate reached the final stretch, it did not slow down, it did not look away, and it did not leave the work unfinished.”
