Governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State, Dr. Jeffrey Kuraun, has said the party’s decision to review petitions arising from its National Assembly primary elections has reinforced confidence in its commitment to internal democracy and justice.
Kuraun, in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, described the actions of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) as a demonstration of fairness, transparency and respect for due process, saying the leadership had shown its willingness to address legitimate grievances in the interest of the party.
He said the decision by the NWC to entertain appeals and take corrective measures where necessary reflected a commitment to ensuring that no individual’s interest supersedes that of the APC.
According to him, the development has strengthened the confidence of party members in the party’s internal dispute resolution mechanism and affirmed that justice would be upheld where genuine concerns are raised.
Kuraun recalled that following the Benue State governorship primary, he submitted a petition alleging substantial non-compliance with the party’s guidelines, denial of due process and other irregularities during the exercise.
He explained that although his legal team made several attempts to submit the petition to the Governorship Primary Election Appeal Committee, they were unable to do so, prompting him to forward the matter to the party’s national leadership.
He expressed satisfaction that the NWC had demonstrated a readiness to consider legitimate complaints.
“The latest development demonstrates that our party is prepared to listen to legitimate grievances and to take corrective action whenever necessary in the overall interest of justice, equity, transparency and electoral success,” he said.
The APC chieftain maintained that internal democracy remains the bedrock of every successful political party, stressing that giving aggrieved members a fair hearing would promote unity and strengthen the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kuraun also congratulated candidates who emerged from the party’s Senate and House of Representatives primaries, expressing confidence that they would secure victory in the next general elections.
He urged party members and stakeholders in Benue State and across the country to support the decisions of the National Working Committee and remain united in pursuit of electoral success.
Kuraun further commended the APC leadership for what he described as exemplary leadership, expressing optimism that the party would emerge stronger through its continued commitment to justice, fairness and democratic principles.
