Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has disbursed N20 million to victims of a road accident at Ambursa, which led to the loss of five footballers while others were injured.
Last Friday, youths of an Ambursa Football Club were on their way to a friendly soccer match at the neighbouring Gulumbe town, when their Sienna Toyota vehicle somersaulted few kilometres away from their destination.
Four persons died on the spot, one other passed away in the hospital while some were treated and discharged.
At the time of the accident, Governor Nasir Idris, who was on his to the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport, in a convoy, made a stop over and participated in the rescue operation.
The Governor directed the Ambulance vehicle on the convoy to evacuate all the victims to the hospital for free treatment.
Yesterday,Governor Nasir Idris despatched a high powered delegation led by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Garba Umar Dutsinmari, on a condolence visit to the District Head of Ambursa and the families of the victims.
Other members on the entourage were the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, the Commissioner for Works, ABDULLAHI Umar Muslim, and the Special Adviser, Religious Affairs, Imran Usman.
Comrade Idris expressed deep condolences on the demise of the five young footballers, praying GOD to shower them with mercy.
He donated three million naira each to the five deceased families, one million naira each to the three injured players, while two million naira was shared among other survivors, including the Coach who did not receive even a scratch.
The District Head of Ambursa Alhaji Isa Haruna Rasheed, expressed immense appreciation to Governor Nasir Idris for his benevolence and compassion, reaffirming the unflinching support of his people to incumbent administration.
