The Council of Elders, youths, opinion molders and other eminent stakeholders of Ogwugwu Village in Enugwu-Agidi Community, Njikoka LGA of Anambra State, have besieged the Corporate Headquarters of the Anambra State Housing Development Corporation in Awka.
The stakeholders purpose of visiting Awka is to appeal to the Corporation to re-establishment certified true copy of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) and other relevant documents establishing the Liberation Estate on their lands at Aniocha, Ofiamgbo, Odoachlla and Mgbogidi.
The lands which are currently occupied by the Nigerian Army are located along Nawfia junction axis of the Onitsha -Enugu Express-way.
The Stakeholders actually presented a letter on.the matter, signed by the Attorney of the community, Prof. M.N.Umenweke to the Acting Managing Director of Anambra State Housing Corporation, Barr. Nkolika Ebede.
The National Chairman of Ogwugwu Village, Ozo Darlington Kenechukwu Okoye, while presenting the letter said that the reason behind their visit was to get clarifications on the sudden presence of the Nigerian Army on the lands .
He said that the presence of the Army in the area had generated a lot of heat speeches, character defamation, suspicions and accusation and counter accusations among people of the village.
The Chairman, who noted that they will be happy if the leadership of the Housing Corporation would grant them audience on time where both parties would have round table discussion on the issues, to enable the them know the boundaries between them and the Soldiers.
He pointed out that the Army had gone beyond their boundaries, thereby destroying their farm lands and their crops which he noted would no longer be tolerated by the villagers.
In her response, the Acting Managing Director of the Corporation, Barr. Nkolika Ebede, thanked the leadership of the village for toeing the part of peace, assuring them that the heads of the corporation will deliberate on their letter.
Barr. Ebede however said that there is nothing the Corporation can do about their letter immediately, noting that everything about civil service boiled down to paper communication.
She assured her visitors that a date would be fixed for the parties concerned on the issue to sit down together and iron out the grey areas concerning the affected lands end settle amicably.
