Troops of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have successfully repelled multiple terrorist attacks and recovered arms and ammunition during coordinated operations across Katsina and Zamfara states.
The military said the operations, conducted on July 2, 2026, disrupted terrorist activities in several communities, led to the neutralisation of terrorists, recovery of weapons and the rescue of an abducted district head.
The Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, noting that the successes demonstrated the determination of troops to safeguard communities and sustain pressure on terrorist groups operating across the North-West region.
According to the statement, troops of Sector 2 on fighting patrol engaged suspected terrorists between Amara and Chakau Junction in Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State after the criminals opened fire on the advancing troops.
The troops responded with superior firepower, forcing the terrorists to flee and abandon their mission. Following the encounter, soldiers recovered one AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with eight rounds of ammunition and two motorcycles believed to have been used by the attackers.
In another operation around Sabon Garin and Dantakeri villages in Dutsinma Local Government Area, troops working alongside other security agencies and local vigilantes responded swiftly to a terrorist attack and neutralised one of the assailants during a gun battle.
The military also recorded a major breakthrough in Malumfashi Local Government Area, where armed terrorists riding on motorcycles reportedly invaded Farin Hawa Village and abducted the District Head, Mr. Mubarak Sharin.
Acting on reports of the incident, troops in collaboration with other security agencies launched a pursuit operation and intercepted the fleeing terrorists. During the encounter, one terrorist was neutralised, while the abducted district head was successfully rescued.
Meanwhile, in neighbouring Zamfara State, troops of Sector 2 repelled a terrorist assault on their location at Dauran in Bukkuyum Local Government Area.
The military said troops, supported by reinforcements from a fighting patrol team, forced the attackers to retreat after a fierce exchange of gunfire. Items recovered from the scene included one AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 35 rounds of ammunition, a bandolier and a hydration pack.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended the courage, professionalism and resilience of its personnel, as well as the support provided by collaborating security agencies and local vigilantes during the operations.
The Joint Task Force reiterated its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups while strengthening cooperation with communities to ensure the protection of lives and property across the North-West.
