Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting media practitioners and strengthening ethical journalism as part of efforts to promote good governance and responsible public communication.
The governor made the pledge while addressing participants at the 2026 Arewa Media Summit held at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano.
Represented by the Kebbi State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, Governor Idris said his administration recognises the critical role of the media in fostering transparency, accountability and national development.
He noted that Kebbi State had benefited significantly from the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through various development projects, particularly in road infrastructure.
The governor identified the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway, which traverses Kebbi State, as a landmark project capable of transforming the state’s economy. He said the highway would enhance trade, improve connectivity and stimulate economic growth across Kebbi State and the wider North-West region upon completion.
Governor Idris commended the organisers of the summit, especially the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Public Enlightenment, AbdulAziz AbdulAziz, for initiating the programme.
He described the summit as timely, saying it would strengthen the capacity of journalists and social media influencers to uphold professionalism, objectivity and ethical standards in their reporting.
In his remarks, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, also praised the organisers for convening the summit.
The President stressed the importance of continuous training and reorientation for media practitioners to ensure accurate, objective and responsible journalism.
He said effective coverage of government activities depends on journalists having a proper understanding of government policies and programmes, enabling them to provide factual, balanced and informative reports to the public.
Tinubu further urged media professionals to maintain balanced reporting while contributing to the promotion of peace, national unity and sustainable development across the country.
