……Unveils warrior Olukpai’s 12ft statue for resisting British colonial masters in 1847

HRH Eze Dr. Oliver Ohanweh, the Obi GburuGburu of Isiama Autonomous Community in Isiala Mbano LGA of Imo State and his Eze-in-council cabinet members have chosen Saturday October 10th for the celebration of their historical 2026 Iriji cultural fiesta heritage.

The usual mega cultural extravaganza will witnessed for the first time ever, the unveiling of the magnificent statue of late Oyirimba Osuji Olukpai (aka Nkwunrishi, Ogba Mgba azu eruala) a famous traditional wrestler, warrior and hunter of repute that single handedly resisted British slave merchants from entering the then Okigwe divisional district in 1847 for their illicit businesses.

The more than 12ft gigantic statue weighing over 150kg is sculpturally carved masterpiece with iroko tree, and it’s one of the multi million Naira artifacts, Eze Ohanweh recently fought doggedly and recovered from the British Museum in London.

It’s simply, a tourist delight and a historical remembrance of the bravery, patriotism and exploits of ancient Igbo great leaders.

Late Ichie Osuji Olukpai hails from Umuihim huru ogu ju nri community in Osu Owerre ancient clan of present day Isiala Mbano LGA of Imo State and was known for his prowess as a one man riot squad, revered warrior, great wrestler and reputable hunter.

Oral history has it that, he was a terror to neighbouring communities and beyond, his name even after death usually invoked fears as he was said to have naturally endowed with so much magical and mystical powers, and strength.

With an imposing physique and mystical powers, he was equally said to have protected Okigwe divisional district from so many external invasions , aggressions and again a thorough nightmare to the British colonial masters and their indigenous agents.

His Imperial Majesty, Eze Dr Cletus Ilomuanya, CON, the Obi of Obinugwu, one time Chairman Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers , former Chairman South East Traditional Rulers Council, Co-Chairman Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council has been detailed for the unveiling of the over 173 years old refurbished statue.

Eze Ohanweh while speaking on the importance of the cultural fiesta, assured that the occasion will be also heralded with the best of hospitalities, cultural dances, masquerades, acrobatics, comedians and with pomp and pageantries.

The famous traditional ruler also disclosed that, the evergreen occasion will be held in his massive Umuihim paradise on earth Wisdom Palace and many distinguished personalities within and outside the State have reassured of their commitments to attendance.
