By Isaac Ojo

The Anambra State Police Command on Tuesday celebrated the decoration of its substantive Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, as an Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).

Also decorated was the immediate past Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Nnaghe Obono Itam, who was elevated alongside other senior officers during a ceremony held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, described the simultaneous promotion of the serving and immediate past Commissioners of Police of the Anambra State Command as a remarkable milestone. He said the elevation reflects the Nigeria Police Force’s recognition of exceptional leadership, professional excellence, dedication to duty, and unwavering commitment to public service.

According to him, during their respective tenures in Anambra State, both senior officers demonstrated exemplary leadership and strategic direction in advancing operational policing, strengthening collaboration with stakeholders, improving public confidence, and enhancing security across the state.

“Their promotion stands as a fitting recognition of their invaluable contributions to the Force and the nation at large,” Ikenga said.

He added that the Anambra State Police Command is immensely proud of the achievement, noting that it not only honours the distinguished officers but also reinforces the command’s enduring commitment to excellence, professionalism, and effective service delivery.

“The officers and men of the Command heartily congratulate both AIGs on this well-deserved elevation. The Command is confident that their wealth of experience, visionary leadership, and commitment to the ideals of the Nigeria Police Force will continue to make a significant impact in their new responsibilities,” he stated.

Ikenga wished AIG Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, mnips, PhD, and AIG Nnaghe Obono Itam, psc(+), PhD, continued success, excellent health, and greater accomplishments as they continue to serve the Nigeria Police Force and the nation with honour, integrity, and distinction.
